You could be amongst those to be sacked in 2016
Did that headline scare you?!
Been sacked? Well I don’t like being a harbinger of bad news but that the truth. If you are not a company CEO or on the board of directors then you are a potential target for the dreaded SACK LETTER.
As oil prices dwindle and Nigeria adjusts to creating an alternative revenue stimulator to the economy, expect more job cuts in 2016 than previously over the past five years. The biggest employer of labour in Nigeria the government did come out recently under the aegis of the Governor’s Forum to say the N18,000 minimum wage is unattainable. The organized labour responded by insisting state government must respect the 18K minimum wage policy. Could both parties be spoiling for another round of industrial disputes? Is the governors and the forum really stating the obvious? What could possibly be the outcome of these?
The answer isn’t farfetched; should labour insist on N18,000 minimum wage it will leave government with the option of reducing it work force in other to implement the wage structure. This isn’t limited to government alone, with the advent of cashless monetary policy, BVN registration, TSA and other technological based transactions banks will experience low cash transaction year on year, no loose government monies and account in their banks which ultimately will affect their turnover and book balances at the end of financial years. The immediate effect of this is in reducing it work force thereby saving a few millions in salaries and bonuses monthly.
Conservatively a large portion of sectors will look to cut cost, down size, outsource and close expenditure channels. It is the salary earners and those on the lower rung of the organizational organogram will be sacrificed to meet these cut costing measures. Are you ready to absorb the shock should you get that dread letter? What soft skills (technical and non technical), certification or professional qualification have you added to your CV since you got your current job? How do you go about starting to search for job after all these years?
