Have you received a bogus text message or email inviting you for a job at an obscure location in Ilupeju, Onipanu, Ikorodu Road, Abule Egba or at such obscure places and it turns out to be a marketing/networking business?
Have you been invited for a job interview and you never knew jack about the job nor applied for it in the first place?
If your answer to any of the above is YES, then you know what we are writing about. However, if you haven’t been prey to these, read these and guard your details from going into hands of scrupulous elements in our society.
In this age of job search online and offline, job seekers tend to submit their application at any given submission portal. After our research, here are our suggestions on how to guard your details from being in the open.
Create a separate email address for CV/Job search and it should be an entirely different email address from that that contains your Internet or all banking details and transactions. In doing so, you also protect your primary email address from hacks, spam and unsolicited emails.
Don’t include all your numbers simply because you don’t want to miss out on that interview invite. Becareful with the number you include on your CV, even if it’s not always on, leave a professional call back message and make sure to put it on atleast between the hours of 10 am -4pm daily.
Do not include Name, numbers and email addresses of references (or referees) in your CV. We have always emphasized that once a firm settles on hiring you, they will need a reference from you so what need submitting a referee when you not even shortlisted for interview?
Be mindful of where and how you submit applications; That the vacancy ‘looks’ attractive doesn’t mean you should submit…all that glitters? Do due diligence before submitting, ask questions and confirm. Check out the submission portal to confirm authenticity.
Example if Shell Petroleum is hiring and you get: Greatking111@yahoo.com as the submission portal, be very wary of it.
Finally, stick to the HR site or Job site you know and can always reach for enquiries.
At EmployMe Nigeria all our social media handles responds to any job enquiries posted on our site and guide applicants accordingly.
