Here’s EmployMe.ng Package for Laid Off Professionals
The banking sector like every facet of the Nigeria society has been hit by the worst economic crisis ever witnessed in the history of the Nation. The immediate offshoots of these situations are cost cutting measures these banks (over 22 key banks) are adopting, and most significant of these measures are downsizing, redeployment and layoffs.
Ecobank, First Bank and last week DiamondBank and this week Skye Bank, collectively have laid off over 2,000 personnel. That is 2,000 more citizens out of work, 2,000 less taxable populations of Nigerians, 2,000 less families, less in significant amount of monthly income. It has a spiraling effect and few lives may never be the same again for the direct and indirect beneficiaries of these mass sack.
Give it to the banking sector, they have contributed (more than all other sectors put together) most to Human Capital Development of the Nigerian state; that in itself is praise worthy and notable. While the layoffs can be attributed to the present economic situation, the question most analyst ask is; Why can’t these banks just tarry a while? Does it mean there won’t be sunshine after this rain? As insiders (the Banks) do they feel the present economic policies is all leading to a long gloomy years ahead? ..Well that’s for the banks to answer.
Let’s look at the ‘laid offs’ and project the way forward.
Yes! This wasn’t the plan, the forecast nor projection for 2016 but Hey!! That’s the reality…you are out of work now.
It is hard to see any positives having just been laid off but in the coming months or years, a few of us can look back and say; ‘Thank you father for that but little affliction’. Two composing derivatives to take away from your bank work after being laid off are:
- Training, professionalism and good work ethics
- Network, knowledge base and know how
The banks didn’t take that away from you (and they never will), infact they thought you how to fish, did you a great service and now can set you to the river with your hook and net.
